Yeah, I never thought about Surge of Light proc from Renew. I mean, I see it all the time (and use it) but I didn't think about it til you mentioned it.

Renew is actually a good priest hot. The downside is that it only ticks 1 time every 3 seconds making it a slow roll. The upside of renew is that the instant heal from it when talented is actually very good, making it much better than the alternative filler which is flash. If you get a SoL proc and someone is in danger of dying, then flash can be a life saver. ICC raid encounter are very low on the spike damage scale so Renew is almost always a better choice for a filler.
